In-Character Information

Name:
Martin Crieff

Series:
Cabin Pressure AU

Canon-Point:
Several months after St. Petersburg.

History:
Canon does apply, but with some differences, either in meaning or otherwise.

Main points are that he died shortly before his interview with Carolyn - it was a car crash, and the reason why he only currently has the van, since the car was totaled around a tree.  The roads had been wet and slippery, Martin had been tired from a long day and a long drive, and the car behind had been very close... leading the other driver to believe that he caused the accident itself.  Because of this he attempted to cover up the fatality, leading to Martin ending up in a not-quite six feet under grave.  Not that he minds, of course - it means that no one has so far looked into his death, so he's allowed to continue existing without anyone telling him that he shouldn't, such as pesky things like bureaucracy and records.

He also 'encouraged' the man who died in Boston/S1 E2 to haunt somewhere else, although it was only in St. Petersburg, as they were heading away from GERTI and possibly dissolving MJN, that Martin was forced to admit to the others that he wasn't, technically, really still alive. Mostly because he'd started to fade due to his anchor being taken away from him. He also uses his ability to actually haunt - rattling objects, cold spots and general uneasiness - to suggest that Gordan back off from investigating further into the story of his death, which had been covered up. In the months after this has happened, due to accepting the reality of Martin being both their Captain and dead, the others have, like it or not, started to see otherworldly things and beings as well. Martin has been trying to help them adapt to this, with varying results.

Personality: Strangely enough, the ghost could be said to have a bigger backbone than the still-living version, possibly due to having more to deal with, and relatively fewer ways to truly get the better of him.

But he's still the same old Martin - a stickler for rules, gets easily flustered, does not do well with women, makes so many mistakes it almost stops being funny and has truly awful bad luck.  And yet the ghost side shows through in ways here too; his obsession with flying is part of what helps him to stick around, and Gerti (and in extension, the rest of the Cabin Crew) are his ghostly 'territory'.  They're his.  And he doesn't like it when someone messes with them.

Powers:
He's a ghost! So, really, what you'd expect of one. He is somewhat transparent as a normal thing (the solid look is him at full strength, funnily enough), and can turn invisible or just plain 'unnoticed', though it wouldn't work on just everyone.

He can also walk through walls etc. although game-wise, this only applies to generally accessible areas - ie, he can't use it as a shortcut all the time.  So he could walk sideways into say, a Pokécentre or some random NPCs house, but not if there is a player or mod plot going on there.  He's more likely to use the door anyway. XD

Any spirits?  He can see/interact with them. They can also interact with him, and anyone with spirit-related powers will be able to affect him with them. He also doesn't need to eat. He does prefer to, though, since he gains more solidity, and it's a feeling of normality that he'd like to keep.

He's also capable of 'haunting'.  You know, generating an aura of general weirdness in the area, cold spots, things that aren't nailed down starting to rattle and shake.  But usually only when he's either properly confident or truly pissed off, which is thankfully hard to do, although some of the above may occur if he's just plain upset.  The 'haunting' wouldn't really be said to be all that strong anyway, so that doesn't need a dampener.

To tell the truth, he's not that strong in his own canon, he's just strong enough and 'there' enough to do what it it is that he wants to do - fly a plane.

First-Person Sample:

[The feed comes on, and at first you might not think that there's anyone there.  Then it becomes apparent that no, that isn't a reflection, that's actually the person who is holding out the video.]

I- I don't suppose anyone's seen a plane, have they?  Ask a silly question... Er, or maybe... the crew?  Carolyn?  Douglas?  Arthur?  I'd really appreciate if anyone could tell me anything, and- well.  Thank you.

[The feed cuts off, Martin even more flustered than when he'd started to speak.

Third-Person Sample:

Martin flicked through the functions of the device he'd been given, still wondering how the thing was staying on when he'd seemed to have gone a lot more transparent than he was used to.  Though, considering that he generally aimed never to get this far, he didn't know what was or wasn't normal for this sort of state.

He'd seen one plane go past in the sky since he'd been teleported - teleports!  Those weren't supposed to be real!  Sci-fi, sure, maybe, but real? - into the town he'd since kept to the outskirts of, even though most of the residents didn't seem to notice anything wrong with him.  Which, if he was honest, unnerved him somewhat more than if they had.

He stopped scrolling.

A familiar voice spoke out of the- what did the man say it was called?  C-Gear?  Or was that the other one? - either way, he recognised that voice, and it wasn't Arthur, Carolyn or, even, Douglas.

He might have felt better about all of this if it had been.

No, that was his own voice.  And from the looks of things, nowhere near as see-through and insubstantial.

Martin cringed, and resolved, determinedly, not to do anything about it.
